YOUR FREEDOM. YOUR FUTURE.
San Diego Internet Crime Defense Lawyer
Online allegations can turn on technical evidence and questions about who controlled an account or device. Protect your rights with a defense that examines the data, context, and required intent.

Understanding online criminal allegations
Internet crime describes many different offenses, not one charge. Allegations may involve unauthorized computer access, phishing, identity theft, payment-card fraud, auction scams, illegal gambling, or prohibited sexual material. California and federal laws can overlap. The actual statute determines the required conduct, knowledge, and intent.
An IP address, account name, or device location does not necessarily identify who acted. Shared devices, compromised accounts, access permissions, complete communications, and forensic methods deserve review before accepting the investigation’s conclusions.
Piracy, financial misconduct, and confidential information
Copyright and piracy disputes may be civil, criminal, or both depending on the conduct and legal requirements. Financial cases can involve alleged use of stolen credentials, unauthorized purchases, or deceptive transfers. A business loss or disputed download does not alone prove every element of a crime.
Trade-secret theft and unauthorized access to confidential business or government information raise separate issues. Not every access violation is espionage, and an employer’s policy dispute is not automatically a federal computer crime. Counsel must analyze authorization, the information involved, and alleged intent.
Digital evidence and potential consequences
Counsel can examine search warrants, device imaging, chain of custody, timestamps, account attribution, and whether evidence was collected lawfully. Some offenses are misdemeanors; others carry felony sentences, restitution, forfeiture, or registration obligations. Consequences depend on the charge, not the general label “internet crime.”
Get guidance before handling evidence
Do not delete data, access someone else’s accounts, or copy or forward potentially illegal material. Ask counsel how to preserve relevant information safely. James N.
